This year, we received 685 entries from 409 authors, nearly a hundred more than last year. Traditionally, blogs and regional articles and broadcasts comprise the largest share of all entries, followed closely by print reportages. 43 expert juries coming from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Italy and United Kingdom have already began assessing the entries and selecting nominees in each category.

We are proud to present 16 different categories this year. Entries might be submitted by their authors, editors, publishers, but also readers or viewers of the Slovak media. Expert juries will only consider those entries published and broadcasted in the time period between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011.

The lay and professional public can see this year’s winning and nominated photographs and caricatures at the “No Comment” exhibition at the Open Gallery in Bratislava. The exhibition features more than 100 photographs and caricatures published in Slovak periodic press as commentary of last year’s important political and social events. After Bratislava the exhibition will be moved to Presov’s MAX shopping centre where it will be open until August 30th.

The fifth annual competition registered the highest number of participants in the history of the Journalism Award – 501 authors and 911 competition entries. The juries nominated three to four entries in all 13 categories. The winners of the individual categories were then selected by the jury members. The names of the winners were announced at the official ceremony at the Meteorit theater in Bratislava on April 24th.
